It's all coming together..

So the last few weeks are really starting to show the benefits of all the work we have been doing. The pumpkins are growing nice and starting to vine out. There is a fair amount of blooms all ready, and our fields haven't been this clean in ages.
Autumn had a mountain bike race last night, after a few weeks off the bike we weren't sure how she would do, but she got a first place which puts her in the lead for first place in the series, and with one race to go it looks like she could win the series.

When we got home last night Melody and I were rushing to get everything done, field worked and the grass cut, since the forecast looked like a weekend of thunderstorms. We have been unable to cut our back part of the yard though due to 4 baby Kildeers running around it right now. So with one tractor out of gas in the field and the lawmmower ran dry we called it a night.

I got our new corn stand finished tonight and am very pleased with how it turned out, i am sure in time i will find things we need to add to it, ( just as i type that i remembered i need a holder for a roll of produce bags) but i am very pleased with how it turned out and think it will work much better then the larger trailer we normally would use at the beginning of the season.
Our apple tree ( that we have had for about 8 years, and moved it with us 5 years ago, has it usual 2 apples, but i know someday we will have enough to bake a pie..... SOMEDAY!!
So with a little over a week till August, it looks like our late re-seeding is going to catch up and heres keeping my fingers crossed for more great weather.

Can i have a re-do on this week please!!!!

Well it has been a busy week, had a great rain on tuesday night and beautiful sunny days since then.

So despite all of our efforts on our flooded basement, yesterday it started to smell funky. After trying to find some more options to try i was faced with the one decision i really didn't want to do....... Lift the carpets. I laid in bed thinking if i should or not and at 3 in the morning Melody and I climbed out of bed and started on it. And not much to my surprise the underlay was soaking wet still so we pulled out the carpet on half of your basement, I will be finishing the other half after dark tonight. As i think of what kind of flooring replacement would be best for it.

So with a few hours sleep i showed up 2 hours late to my first appointment of the day for work. Lucky the customer knows of my basement situation and totally understand, plus i guess the fact that i am doing them a large favour helps then understand more. After a busy day, the high light was delivering some product to a hair salon with june, where of course all the women stare at her as she walks thought with her i am a model five year old attitude.

Tonight when june and I got home we hang out for awhile then headed out to the garage to start building our new corn sales stand for the highway. We have a trailer we usually use, but with only corn and some vegetable it looks very empty since it is 20 feet long. And we are planning for my Mom to sell corn during the week days so this will be something she can move in and out with a pallet jack.

Man there is never a dull moment around here.....

What a team.....

Every now and then Melody shocks me, I mean I know she is tough and that we can do so much together, but today she called me to tell me there was water in our basement, luckily i was almost home at the time and together we were able to clean it out and got a plumber here right away and even a septic truck for a quick clean out. Turns out a screen was blocked and the flapper value on our pump was shot causing the weeping tiles to back up, thank goodness it was only clean water! WHEW!!!!!

Then when things were downgraded from super bad to only really bad she told me to leave her and sabina with the basement and sent me out on the tractor to get work done before tomorrows thunderstorms.

After dark I helped with the basement more and I really dont know how she did so much, when she focus's on something look out.
And our carpet has never been so white down there since we bought the house.

So I sit here at 2:15 in the morning as she is still running the carpet extractor to squeeze out every last drop she can find in the carpet. She really is amazing!!!!!

The field is starting to catch up from the month of rain we called june. Even yesterday some plants were really quite yellow still, but every day they are looking better, quite a bit of blooms setting up already and they are lots of runners on the vines. So now with fertilizer down i sit and hope for a good rain tomorrow, nothing crazy, just a nice summer thunderstorm.

Lots of rototilling, cultivating, and then really worked to clean up the tree lines and got my moms tomato's staked, going to relax with mel tonight and then put in another morning of work tomorrow, and i will get some pics of how good everything is looking. I think these late pumpkins are going to make it!!!!!!!!!!

Man could i be productive if i didn't have to go work!!!!

Well in the last two days we have got the pumpkin patch really cleaning up. Almost everything has been hoed around( lots of thanks to my mom for the help with that), Melody did an amazing amount of rototilling down each row, lots of cultivating to help dry out the water logged field, and started row cultivating again today to help air out the soil more. I don't think our field has ever looked this clean at the being of July ever!!!!!

The temps have been +30 this week, so it usually only lets us work till 1 in the afternoon, then gives us some family time. Yesterday was really laid back, we all had a family afternoon nap ( well expect june, she just took turns waking us up). Then headed to town for the canada day festivities. Autumn hung out with some of her friends as june danced to the music in front of the stage. We meet up with some family there to watch the fire works, which were great. Then watch the an amazing lighting storm north of us as we drove home, luckily to find only a small amount of rain actually fell at our house.
Tomorrow hold some equipment repairs and hopefully to finally finish cleaning my garage. But with two more day off i know we will have lots more laughs ahead.

Going to be an awesome week!!!!

Well after the rain on sunday, all we could do tonight was head out for a mountain bike ride. We took along one of autumns friends for her first try at riding trails. Was a beautiful night and enjoyed a relaxed ride enjoying the beauty of nature. We then did some pavement riding over to a playground near the beach, and then a ice cream stop on the way home.

Our field no longer has huge lakes on it anymore but is still very soggy, i am hoping another day of sunshine and wind tomorrow will allow me to be able to get and and weed some higher sections. And hopefully full tilt weeding by wednesday and thursday.

Since Canada day is thursday i am hoping to so on the river boat cruise in town and catch the fireworks that night. Hopefully with a smile on my face about how clean my field is. Fingers Crossed!!!!!!

Where does it all come from?????

Well we had two very productive days friday night we cleaned up one really weedy section of field, then saturday got half the white pumpkins cleaned up and a large chunk of another section done. Then we were chased in by the rain at super time, we ate and watched a massive downpour, i felt so good about everything we had worked up and loosen from the 3 weeks of wetness we have had here.

Woke up to the sun this morning, and figured by tonight i would be able to walk the field to see how everything was looking, only to see the darkest clouds come rolling over the house. And then mother nature show me once again who really is in charge!!!!!!

So now it's off to town for some groceries and a then cook a nice super and a relaxing movie with my family. Sounds good to me!!!!

Friday night time to Hoe it up!!!!

Could it be??????? THe rain has stopped?????? THe forecast was calling for another big downpour this weekend, but they have just changed it to a week of sun and nice temps. So with the row cultivator hooked up and hoes in hand it is time to get the field cleaned up.

THe pumpkins we have reseed on june 14th are poking though the ground beautifully and look great. and even though there is the odd ugly messy patch for it being over a month since we seeded it's looking pretty good. ( till i think about the white pumpkins patch, but that is another story)

Off to work

BBQ, Bikes, hail, what a night...

So i was able to get back on the field yesterday to cultivate a and losen up the soil to help out the pumpkins. Then loaded up the the bikes to head to the last kids of mud for the season. We where chased all the way there by the scarest looking clouds i have seen in a week, the type of clouds that bring that massive summer downpour you usually get once a year, but this is our 4th or 5th this month. It started with rain then hail, as 100 people squeezed under the picnic shelter to stay dry, then watch the water run in flooding the shelter which quickly showed it was in one of the lower spots in the field.
But the sun broke though again and we headed out for our ride with 4 inches of water covering all the single track it made for a fun ride. June with her trail along bike and I rode with the faster teenage boys which lead to a real lung burner for me. Always hate to see kids of mud come to a end, but it was another great year.

On the way home june as she calls it a scrapbook page with the stickers she got for the kids accomplishments of what they learned this year. Along with the phases - Ride a Bike and JUne and Dad. Got home to jump on the tractor and take a spin around the field for put in some ruts to hold the water and help dry out the pumpkins, i am hating watching a wake behind the tractor like i am in a boat!!!!

Feels awesome to have kids so into mountain biking though!!!!
