Going to be an awesome week!!!!

Well after the rain on sunday, all we could do tonight was head out for a mountain bike ride. We took along one of autumns friends for her first try at riding trails. Was a beautiful night and enjoyed a relaxed ride enjoying the beauty of nature. We then did some pavement riding over to a playground near the beach, and then a ice cream stop on the way home.

Our field no longer has huge lakes on it anymore but is still very soggy, i am hoping another day of sunshine and wind tomorrow will allow me to be able to get and and weed some higher sections. And hopefully full tilt weeding by wednesday and thursday.

Since Canada day is thursday i am hoping to so on the river boat cruise in town and catch the fireworks that night. Hopefully with a smile on my face about how clean my field is. Fingers Crossed!!!!!!

Where does it all come from?????

Well we had two very productive days friday night we cleaned up one really weedy section of field, then saturday got half the white pumpkins cleaned up and a large chunk of another section done. Then we were chased in by the rain at super time, we ate and watched a massive downpour, i felt so good about everything we had worked up and loosen from the 3 weeks of wetness we have had here.

Woke up to the sun this morning, and figured by tonight i would be able to walk the field to see how everything was looking, only to see the darkest clouds come rolling over the house. And then mother nature show me once again who really is in charge!!!!!!

So now it's off to town for some groceries and a then cook a nice super and a relaxing movie with my family. Sounds good to me!!!!

Friday night time to Hoe it up!!!!

Could it be??????? THe rain has stopped?????? THe forecast was calling for another big downpour this weekend, but they have just changed it to a week of sun and nice temps. So with the row cultivator hooked up and hoes in hand it is time to get the field cleaned up.

THe pumpkins we have reseed on june 14th are poking though the ground beautifully and look great. and even though there is the odd ugly messy patch for it being over a month since we seeded it's looking pretty good. ( till i think about the white pumpkins patch, but that is another story)

Off to work

BBQ, Bikes, hail, what a night...

So i was able to get back on the field yesterday to cultivate a and losen up the soil to help out the pumpkins. Then loaded up the the bikes to head to the last kids of mud for the season. We where chased all the way there by the scarest looking clouds i have seen in a week, the type of clouds that bring that massive summer downpour you usually get once a year, but this is our 4th or 5th this month. It started with rain then hail, as 100 people squeezed under the picnic shelter to stay dry, then watch the water run in flooding the shelter which quickly showed it was in one of the lower spots in the field.
But the sun broke though again and we headed out for our ride with 4 inches of water covering all the single track it made for a fun ride. June with her trail along bike and I rode with the faster teenage boys which lead to a real lung burner for me. Always hate to see kids of mud come to a end, but it was another great year.

On the way home june as she calls it a scrapbook page with the stickers she got for the kids accomplishments of what they learned this year. Along with the phases - Ride a Bike and JUne and Dad. Got home to jump on the tractor and take a spin around the field for put in some ruts to hold the water and help dry out the pumpkins, i am hating watching a wake behind the tractor like i am in a boat!!!!

Feels awesome to have kids so into mountain biking though!!!!

Mud, Mud, Mud.....

Saturday went for autumn's mountain bike race in pinawa, a course known for it's mud. It was even worse then last year with lots of section only able to be hiked though and some tough efforts trying to ride up mud slick granite rock. But she toughed it out like a champ two wipe outs on her pre ride lift her hip scraped up and her emotions all mixed up about racing that day, but she did and i have to take blame for her near the back of the pack finish as her brakes were really performing poorly ( almost not at all) but she had a good time.

After the race and a quick water bottle shower after the race for autumns legs we headed over to the suspension bridge for june to head across, then a ice cream stop on the way home and relaxing movie night together.
Woke up this morning to a silen
t house, i figured everyone must still be asleep because there is no way m
y kids can be this quiet on a sunday morning, has never happened. But i can down to a wonderful morning breakfast and the offer of a family bike ride, but i have traded that in for a garbage dump run and a hike and stone hunt around a old quarry pit near by. An amazing day!!!!!

Where to start........

Well it has been a crazy spring, it started out with one of the best planting seasons i can remember, it was all done and a perfect rain afterwards to help get everything started.... but it continued to rain for the next couple of weeks. Finally yesterday we were able to get back on the field and reseed a few flooded out sections, a little late but i am hoping with lots of love and the weather working with us it will have time to make it for harvest.

It is thursday night which is normally our kids of mud night for autumn, it is her kids mountain biking group that we do 2 nights a week, but with thunderstorms in the area i decided we would hang out at home. Since we have a race of hers to go to this weekend.

There are so many other stories of the last few weeks, like the fishing trip with junes first fish, or my crash over my bars in front of the crowd as i try to film autumn at her last race. So looking forward to sharing more of our adventures as we watch the pumpkins grow.
