summer days.....

Been a tough last couple days with some family stuff going on, so we did the some of the best things we could think of to do with our spare time. Some go karting, beach fun and general hanging out and laughing. Summer has been busy with the farm, so we have to give the kids some story's to go back to school with.

Summer is in full effect...

Well after so much rain all spring, now i am hoping for a good day of rain soon. Everything is looking really good and we started picking tomatoes tonight.

Pumpkins are really coming along nice but some rain would really help set up alot more blooms right now, all i can do is hope.

Weather wise it's suppose to cool down to mid 20's for the next week, which will be nice. Since the little showers we are getting right now can't do much with the +30 temp's we have been having.

June is pretty proud of her sun flowers she planted this year and has to check them out daily.

They are truly beautiful.

And what better way to enjoy a summer evening.

What are you going to be when you grow up......

Well after having lunch with my sister and niece yesterday we headed home to rush and load up to head to birdshill park for the last race of the series. Autumn was ready to race and was pretty excited, even had her helmet on in the truck. ( maybe my driving just scares her)

She had a 3 points lead in the series so to win she needed to beat girl in second place overall, it turned into a exciting race with her getting passed at the start of the second lap, then seeing her come back into view again in first place telling us the other girl wiped out. She held on to first going into the thrid lap, but then a bonk off a tree had her getting passed and had her finishing in second place. But winning the overall for the series, which gets her a series winner t-shirt. I was really tempted to order it in my size but i think that maybe that would have been a bad parenting move. She had a great little cheering section with us and her grandma and Ken and family friend Paul. We headed for a victory ice cream after at our favourite ice cream stand skinners.

The late night drive home had everyone fast asleep in the truck, not sure if the racing wore them out more or the cheering.

The pumpkins are growing nice, some real over achievers and lots of bloom sets forming. I am really looking forward to the next month to see how everything develops.

Some are a mystery still as to what they will grow into, some a little more obvious.

So with a great weather forecast for the weekend, we are hoping for some busy days of corn sales and planning a garage sale as well this weekend. But mostly we are just enjoying the sunshine.

Feels so good...

So, with out a doubt this is the cleanest our fields have been in years, between a goal of starting weeding shortly after seeding, and the bad weather this spring which forced us out to the field any chance we had between dourpours, helped us give the pumpkins every advantage we can, the fields look great now. We have one pumpkin softball size and lots of pumpkins setting up, there are still a few sections of late planting that is trying to catch up, but most sections look as good as the plants seeded before may long weekend.
We had our first weekend of corn selling this weekend, we haven't had corn for august long weekend for many years, so i am pretty proud of it being ready this year.
Our new stand seems to be working really well, and provides great shade even with the hot weather we had this weekend. We have a little bit of beans ready and will start picking tomato's soon.

Last year we saw quite a bit of racoon damage, and this year we have been getting even more. We have caught 5 racoons in the last four days, even two youngs ones in the trap at the same time. We are happy to have moved them to a lovely patch of forest far, far away and hope they are having a wonder family reunion there.

We have been so busy as of lately, summer is just flying past, we had a visit from my sister from edmonton last night and her daughter, it was nice to see her and meet her daughter. We are very excited for autumn's last race of the season tomorrow night, which means i guess i will put on my bike mechanic's hat and make sure her bike is ready to go.

Other then that we are spending this week getting ready for the garage sale we have wanted to have the last few years and hopefully i will get the rest of my garage cleaned up from building the new roadside stand but for now it is off to cut the grass.

But thankfully the kids always find time to walk in the rain as we get ready to sell corn.
